Cette chanson é été écrite par Prince mais elle a été rendue célèbre à travers le monde par la version de l’Irlandaise Sinéad O’Connor en 1990.
Elle est présente sur l’album « I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got » de la chanteuse, auparavant elle était présente sur l’album homonyme du groupe « The Family », un des projets parallèles de Prince, mais passera totalement inaperçue pour le grand public.
Une version originale de « Nothing Compares 2 U », enregistrée en 1984 par Prince, est dévoilée en avril 2018 deux ans après son décès.
